9/1/2024 Chinese New Year②

Today I’ll tell you about the Chinese food I bought during Chinese New Year.

Shredded pork sandwiched between English muffins.

It was tasty, but too fatty for me.

I don’t know what this is called. There is no such dish in Japan. It seems to be made by cutting tofu into thin slices, drying them and seasoning them spicy.
When I tried it, I could smell a strong coriander flavour. It was spicy, but not too spicy as it looked. Delicious.

I really like it because it has few calories.

Chinese fried bread called yujiao was sold.
Japanese people don’t eat this and many Japanese people don’t know what an yujiao is.

I was told that Chinese people eat this bread made of flour puffed up with baking soda, soaked in soup or other food.

Since it was sold in the square, I simmered it with vegetables for hygienic reasons.

It was quite a stew, but it was chewy and the addition of this yujiao made it much tastier than the vegetable soup alone.

Pig’s feet. Not eaten much in Japan except in Okinawa, which is influenced by Chinese culture.

They may look a bit grotesque, but they are rich in chondroitin, soft and a bit like hard jelly.

They are flavoured with the smell of Star anise. I took this home and tried it again.

The taste was too strong for me, but it was a good side dish to eat a little at a time.

Is this bread? Or is it a type of cookie?
I think it would be a pastry, like a sweet bread, but it was very tasty.
I liked it so much I bought two extra and brought them home.

Chinese steamed buns.
Chinese steamed buns have meat inside and are a type of side dish, while Japanese steamed buns have sweet bean paste inside and are classified as a type of confectionery.

However, Chinese steamed buns are popular with high school students who are hungry and are often seen eating them on their way home from school.
