2023/12/9 A restaurant: Mokumoku Farm: A small farm challenge success story

food in Japan

After the usual check-up at the sports clinic, I went to Nagoya Station for lunch.

The restaurant I went to was “Mokumoku Farm”, which is run by a small farm in Mie Prefecture, not far from Nagoya.

This is my favourite restaurant, where they use a lot of vegetables from the farm to make their dishes, which you can eat as much as you like in a buffet style.

Look! These fresh vegetables!
All the vegetables are grown at Mokumoku Farm.
I cook every day, so sometimes going to Mokumoku Farm gives me a chance to eat different vegetables that I don’t usually eat.

6 Today’s pasta was Italian pasta.

7 It’s nice to get beans, isn’t it?

Beans are good for your health. But I don’t usually eat them because they’re a pain to cook.

I’m glad that the bean dishes at Moku Moku Farm are tasty and well seasoned.

8,9 These are tofu dishes. Tofu is made from soybeans. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, 97% of the soybeans we consume in Japan are imported from the USA (73%), Brazil (16%) and Canada (10%).

But this tofu is all from Mokumoku Farm.

12 This is Okara salad. Okara is called soy pulp or soya pulp in English, which is a byproduct of tofu production process.

The texture is rough and not very good. It used to be common in my grandmother’s house, but I did not eat it because it was bad.

However, it is known that the process of making tofu from soya beans is very nutritious and healthy, including the dietary fibre.

The okara salad made at Mokumoku Farm is very tasty and easy for me to eat.

13 This is an omelette made with eggs from a mokumoku farm. As soon as it was served, everyone came in a flash and so much was gone.

14

This is stewed burdock root. Burdock root may be unpopular in Europe or America, but it is often served in Japan.

In particular, the fibre content has recently been revalued for women who care about their beauty.

But burdock is difficult to cook. So I don’t use it in my dishes. When I go to Mokumoku Farm, I am attracted to burdock dishes.

15 This was a kind of Italian pasta.

16 ,17 Tempura is said to have been introduced from Portugal in the 17th century along with guns. Today we have 3 kinds of tempra, pumpkin, potato and carrot.

These are all sweets after meals. Steamed bread, apples and orange jelly from Mokumoku Farm, and Tofu castella.

These are all my meals. In fact, I forgot that I should have taken a photo for one more plate.

I am already full.

The price for this lunch is 2,300 yen. In US dollars, this comes to USD 15.88. That’s very cheap when you can eat so much and think it’s healthy, isn’t it?
